Julia Holt lives and works in Hertfordshire and completed her Fine Art Degree with First Class Honours at the University of Hertfordshire in Hatfield.
Julia is a mixed media artist and works with inks, oil, acrylic, pastel, pigment, graphite, pen and collage and concentrates on the physicality of mark making.
She is greatly influenced by ancient philosophy and the paradox of human behaviour, good and bad.
As a painter, Julia researches by using photography, drawing and immersion in nature and particularly admires the work of Edward Burtynsky who has recorded the evidence of mans effect on the environment and land masses for over 40 years.
When working in her studio in Hertfordshire, Julia enjoys using fine quality paper as absorption plays a key part in the process which allows different mediums to interact, creating a surface that feels lively and energised. Using a wet on wet method that enables the inks to form natural marks, she gives herself space to manipulate the mark or leave it as her initiative dictates. The production is both instant and gradual and the gradual movement can begin to manifest a myriad of possibilities from which Julia can work.
